OBSERVING AND MODIFYING THE INFINITELY SMALL IN REAL TIME!

,

+FAST +PRECISE +EFFICIENT

Scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) is an essential and widely used tool for imaging surfaces on an atomic scale. Prof. Rochefort’s team is working to improve the processing of information provided by this equipment, in an effort to achieve greater speed and precision.

Their imaging software – the most advanced in the world – makes possible the production of images of the infinitely small in real time. Now that this first phase has been completed successfully, the team is focusing on a second generation allowing the chemical and physical modification of the surface observed.
