Particle size measurement

Particle size measurement

MANUFACTURER Horiba
MODEL Partica LA-950

General description:

The Partica LA-950 is the gold standard in particle size analysis thanks to its high resolution, extremely fast measurement time, and wide measurement range (from 10 nm to 3 mm). The technology is based on the detection of static light scattering and size calculation based on Mie scattering theory. The numerous parameters for sample agitation, circulation, and ultrasonication prevent agglomeration and allow for the analysis of a wide range of different materials.

Applications:

Particle size significantly affects the properties, performance, stability, appearance, texture, and formability of materials in fields as diverse as energy (battery anodes and cathodes, ceramics); construction (cement, asphalt emulsion); food (milk homogenization, food additives and flavorings); cosmetics (moisturizers, face powder); pulp and paper (cellulose, lignin, fillers, bonding agents); pharmaceuticals (excipients, formulations, vaccines); polymers (microplastics, packaging); and nanoparticles (quantum dots, plasmonics, carbon nanotubes).

Characteristics :

In addition to the standard sample cell (fraction cell), the Partica LA-950 is equipped with the Mini-Flow Cell module, which allows a smaller volume of solution (30 mL) to be circulated through the analyzer.

Other features:

  • Wide particle size measurement range from 10 nm to 3 mm
  • Measurement accuracy: +/- 0.6%
  • Measurement reproducibility: +/- 0.1%
  • Sample quantity required: between 10 mg and 5 g
  • Solution volume required: 180–250 mL (flow cell); 30 mL (mini-flow cell); 15 mL (fraction cell)
  • Compatible with all solvents (water, organic)
  • Two light sources working in tandem: a 650 nm laser source and a 405 nm LED source
  • Circulation system equipped with an ultrasonic probe with a maximum flow rate of 10 L/min (water) and a selection of 15 possible flow rates (slow to fast) and ultrasonication levels
