Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA)

Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA)

MANUFACTURER TA Instruments
MODEL Q500

General description:

A thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) measures changes in mass (loss or gain) and the rate of mass change as a function of temperature, time, and atmosphere.

Applications:

Determination of temperature limits for the development of differential scanning calorimetry methods; study of the thermal and oxidative stability of materials. Determination of moisture and volatile content. Determination of the composition of multi-component materials. Determination of decomposition kinetics and the estimated shelf life of a product.

Characteristics :

  • Temperature range: Room temperature to 800 °C
  • High-resolution ramping capability (speed adapts to mass loss). Facilitates the identification of compounds with similar evaporation/degradation temperatures.
  • Required sample mass: 5 to 15 mg
  • Available gases: Nitrogen (for inert atmosphere) or air (for oxidation, combustion, or simulation of real-world conditions)
  • Weighing accuracy: ± 0.01%
  • Sensitivity: 0.1 µg
  • Controlled ramping between 0.1 and 50 °C/min
